Imminency and the Rapture

The Imminent return of Jesus Christ

While Imminency refers to something that will happen soon, we use it in the sense of something that will happen at any moment.  It describes an event that has no prerequisites, or forerunners. It may be soon or not, but more importantly, it is NEXT!

We are referring to the Imminent return of Jesus Christ. We don’t know when he is coming, but we don’t need any additional prophecy to be fulfilled before his return. His return is the next prophetic event on God’s eschatological timeline.

Clearly the Second Coming of Jesus is not Imminent as the Bible describes many things that Endtimes.org has looked at, and many of them happen BEFORE the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, such as the Tribulation, the revealing of the AntiChrists, etc. So, what is Imminent?

The Rapture of the Church

From our Premillennial perspective, and considering that the Tribulation period is focused on Israel, it is the Rapture of the Church that is Imminent. It is the next event in Bible Prophecy. No other prophecy needs to be fulfilled before the Rapture. We can therefore live with the expectation that the New Testament suggests, watching and waiting.

The Rapture text clearly does not line-up with the Second Coming where Jesus sets foot on the Mount of Olives in judgement.

1 Thess: 4/16-17: For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18Therefore comfort one another with these words.
